Our Toronto dentists can test for and diagnose TMJ jaw joint disorder, and provide you with a plan to treat it.
What is TMJ?
TMJ (temporomandibular jointis) refers to the hinge that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. It lets you move your jaw up-and-down and side-to-side so you can talk and eat properly. The disorder of this joint can cause a host of issues with your jaw and the muscles in your face. Our Toronto dentists can help.
TMJ Disorder Symptoms
TMJ disorder can cause a number of symptoms because the compromised jaw muscles have to work extra hard. Common symptoms include:
- Headaches and migraines
- Teeth grinding (usually during sleep)
- Jaw, face and/or neck pain
At York Lanes Dental Office, our dentists can test for, diagnose and provide a treatment plan for TMJ disorder.
Treatment may include wearing a mouth guard for sleep and relaxation techniques. Your dentist may also a TENS machine, an electrical stimulus device, to encourage the face and jaw muscles to relax.
Untreated TMJ issues can eventually lead to eroded jawbones and loose teeth. If you are experiencing any symptoms, visit your dentist for a proper diagnosis.
