The oravital system
Did you know that gingivitis and periodontitis are oral infections that may affect 75% of adults and kids? You may not be aware that these and other oral infections can affect your overall health.
Gingivitis as an infection can be so mild that you may not even be aware that you have it. But even mild gingivitis must be taken seriously because it can easily lead to the next stage of infection, or periodontitis.
Bacteria commonly found in the mouth grow and multiply until the chemicals that they produce begin to destroy the tissues around the teeth. Initially there is bleeding and inflammation. If not controlled, this destruction continues until the small threads or ligaments that hold each tooth in place become weak or broken - resulting in periodontal pockets and recession of the gums around the infected teeth.
The Oravital™ System is completely safe, easy, non-invasive, and highly effective in the treatment of periodontal disease and bad breath. York Lanes Dental is an Oravital™ Clinic and knows that in addition to examining the gums for bleeding and for pockets, the biofilm in the mouth must be checked for harmful bacteria. Once the infection is treated, the mouth begins to heal.
The Oravital™ System is a unique science-based treatment process that succeeds by using a highly individualised approach that really works!
Periodontal (gum) therapies
Almost 75% of adults may suffer from some degree of gum disease(periodontitis). Because it often goes unnoticed until the later stages. It has often been called a "silent epidemic" in North American culture.
Periodontal Disease affects the structures in the mouth that support the teeth. It's sometimes called "gum disease" but it involves bone and other tissue too. This disease is often chronic. With periodontitis, infection and inflammation spread to the bone supporting the teeth. Ligaments break down and the gums may recede (shrink back). Pockets deepen and can be difficult to keep clean. Redness, swelling, and bleeding may develop or worsen. Bacteria multiply, and infection begins to destroy bone. As bone is destroyed, teeth may start to feel loose.
Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums. It is the initial stage of gum disease and the easiest to treat. The direct cause of gingivitis is plaque - the soft, sticky, colorless film of bacteria that forms constantly on the teeth and gums. If the plaque is not removed by daily brushing and flossing, it produces toxins (poisons) that can irritate the gum tissue, causing gingivitis. Classic signs and symptoms of gingivitis include red, swollen, tender gums that may bleed when you brush. Another sign of gum disease is gums that have receded or pulled away from your teeth, giving your teeth an elongated appearance. Gum disease can cause pockets to form between the teeth and gums, where plaque and food debris collect. Some people may experience recurring bad breath or a bad taste in their mouth, even if the disease is not advanced.
Treatment for gum disease can be surgical or non-surgical in nature. The goal of our Soft Tissue Management treatment program is not only to resolve the signs of inflammation, reduce pocket depths, bleeding and detectable plaque to a level associated with periodontal health, but also to gain and maintain overall health. Ideally we can halt the progression of the periodontal disease. Please call at York Lanes Dental for more information.
Laser Therapies
LASER PERIODONTAL THERAPY (LPTTM) a patented new non-surgical laser alternative to gum surgery, is a less painful, less traumatic way to treat periodontal disease at any stage.
Laser treatment for a cold sore is a fast, painless procedure. It can be performed by one of our dentists or hygienists to any cold sore lesion on the lips. Laser treatment is most effective if the cold sore is treated at the first sign of outbreak.
LASER TREAMENT FOR canker sores. A canker sore is typically one that occurs on the delicate tissues inside your mouth. It is usually light-colored at its base and can have a red exterior border.
We now have the ability to significantly reduce the discomfort associated with canker sores with the use of a diode laser. Without the need for any anesthesia and just a few minutes of your time, we can apply the light of a laser to your canker sore and you can enjoy immediate relief from the nagging discomfort of the canker sore.
